12 Jul QLD Garden Expo 2013
I was up at Nambour in the beautiful Sunshine Coast for QLD Garden Expo 2013! This was the 29th year of the event and the weather could not have been better after a lead-up of what I am told were cool, wet weeks.
This event is always very popular with the public and Friday morning had them queuing for hundreds of metres just to get in the gates. Gardening personalities as well as nurserymen were on hand for a busy lecture series of what seemed like hundreds of talks over the 3 days of the event. I presented 2 talks daily on how to improve your plant/life balance.
A special moment during the event was the Colin Campbell Garden Shed Auction which raised money that could then be used for community grants. This was a great success with over $5000 raised. The committee running this project are currently reviewing applications for funding with a final decision to be made by 1st August 2013. It is hoped that this will become an annual event at the show.
This year I also had the pleasure of hosting the inaugural ‘Gardeners & Gourmets Celebrity Dinner’ which featured gardening identities Costa Georgiadis, Angus Stewart, Annette McFarlane, Phil Dudman and Clair Levander to name just a few. It also had a great array of local produce to sample and plenty of fun, prizes and giveaways. It was lovely to meet so many lovely gardeners on the night from all over Australia!
